This ice climbing tour is available from December to March.
Ice climbing in Slovakia is one of the most interesting sports. Especially when you climb the huge icicles. This activity depends on the weather in the Tatra Mountains and Slovensky Raj. It means the weather conditions in winter are not always suitable for ice climbing.
Instructors and guides: your tour is always supervised by a certified local mountain guide who will bring the necessary equipment with him.
Locations: one of the most popular location for ice climbing is, as mentioned above, the Tatra Mountain. If conditions allow us, we will climb either Veverkov, Groszov or Dolyho Waterfall. Slovensky Raj also offers amazing waterfalls in a canyon called Suchá Belá.
Before we will go ice climbing together we have to check all the conditions (ice, temperature, weather forecast) and then we can go climbing. The ideal temperature for ice climbing is between -8C and +2C.
Long periods of warm weather can destabilize the ice. The ideal thickness of ice for ice climbing is the thickness of more than 1 m. Every winter is different and we can´t guarantee that taking the tour is going to be possible this winter. So please feel free to contact us and we will get back to you with information about the conditions for this tour.
Your equipment and clothing: make sure that you will wear enough layers to keep you warm. Bring appropriate boots /suitable for crampons system/, thick gloves, warm hat and of course something warm to drink, it could be either tea or Tatratea:)
